As a sports bettor in the United States, I’m always looking for new baseball betting sites that accept action from Americans. That’s why I’ve had my eye on GTBets for a while now. First launched in 2011, GTBets has grown by leaps and bounds within a few years. The company got off on the right foot by assuming the obligations and debts of the bankrupt VIP Sportsbook and actually paying out what was owed. Since that time, GTBets has been known for honest dealing and fair play. Unfortunately, those who reside in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, New York or the State of Washington cannot open accounts.
Your Gambling Options at GTBets
The contests offered are definitely weighted towards the American market, so you’ll find baseball lines, football games, hockey and basketball in abundance. The coverage of international events, like soccer matches, golf tournaments and tennis, is sporadic. Racetrack fans will be happy to find horse races from close to 100 class A, B and C tracks available for betting.
There’s also a casino games section incorporated into the product lineup at GTBets. There are table games, like blackjack and roulette, along with slot machines, video poker and a few other types of games. One interesting wrinkle is that casino tournaments are held every day in which you can compete against others for leaderboard prizes. They cost little to enter and are sometimes even free.
The absence of a poker room and bingo hall is a glaring omissions in GTBets’ offerings. Nowadays, I expect to be able to do all kinds of gambling using one account at one site, and I can’t do so here.
GTBets welcomes newcomers with a choice between two bonuses: a 100 percent up to $250 offer and a 50 percent up to $500 bonus. Whichever one you choose, you’ll have to earn five times the value of the bonus in Rollover Points. The bonus funds will then be converted into cash, and you’ll be free to withdraw them if you wish.
You’ll get a variable number of Rollover Points for each dollar of action depending on whether you use the bonus to place sports bets, gamble on the horses or play in the casino. If you choose to bet on baseball or other sports, then you’ll receive five Rollover Points for every $10 risked, but any contests with odds of less than -300 (1.33) will not grant you any Rollover Points.
GTBets has a unique system whereby every player can get a reload bonus as long as that player’s last transaction was not a withdrawal, and the account balance has been reduced to below one quarter of the last deposit amount. The size, percentage match and rollover requirements of each reload bonus will vary from person to person, but you can log into your account to view the details of the bonus you can take advantage of.
Fans of American football and basketball will undoubtedly wish to avail themselves of GTBets’ Favorite Teams offer. By logging into your account and following a link, you’ll be able to select two teams each in NFL, NCAA football, NBA and NCAA basketball. You’ll then automatically receive ½ of a point free on all spreads when you bet on one of those teams during the regular season. For instance, if you place a wager on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they’re a +2.5 underdog, you’ll actually get them at +3.0 instead. This will increase your winning chances, and it doesn’t cost you a thing, so you’d be a fool to ignore this opportunity.
As you place bets, you’ll earn Reward Points that can be spent through the GameTimeRewards program for cash, sweepstakes entries and merchandise. Everyone starts out at Silver level, but as they achieve certain lifetime betting totals, people can advance to Gold or Platinum, where they will earn points faster.
Everything happens through a web interface at GTBets, and the dedicated, mobile-optimized site means you can place bets from your smartphone or tablet almost as easily as you can at the regular website using your desktop computer.
All the basic bet types are present, such as straight wagers, parlays and teasers, but the selection of propositions is limited: You might not be able to wager on whether your favorite player will hit a home run or whether the coin toss in an NFL game will come up heads or tails. There is live betting at GTBets, allowing you to place your bets on contests as they’re underway, but the schedule is restricted to a handful of games per day.
The casino games are mostly provided by BetSoft, a well-known software company that offers a popular line of 3-D slot games. A limited lineup of casino products comes from Arrow’s Edge, a smaller enterprise that has only been in operation since 2014.
GTBets is one of the best new sportsbooks around, but it’s not without it’s drawbacks.
There are a number of no-fee deposit methods available to players in North America, such as Visa, MasterCard, Bitcoin and pre-paid gift card. Most of them have a minimum deposit amount of $35. In addition, there are a couple of methods that cost money to use, but GTBets will reimburse customers for transactions of $200 of more. International players can use the popular e-wallets Neteller and Skrill.
Things aren’t as great on the withdrawal side. Bank wires for a minimum of $100 will attract fees of $60 apiece in addition to whatever charges the recipient’s bank or any intermediary banks levy. You can get a free withdrawal via Bitcoin, but the minimum transaction is $300, and you can only request one such payout every 30 days. Subsequent Bitcoin withdrawals will cost 5 percent up to $60 in fees. There are a couple of cash-transfer services available for payouts, but they cost $50 or more to use.
You can wager up to $5,000 per side on NBA and NFL games, $3,000 on baseball and NCAA contests, just $2,000 on NHL matches and a paltry $500 on other sporting events. The limits for totals, moneylines and parlays are, in most cases, even more restrictive. Additionally, management is not keen on serving professional or advantage bettors, so those who show signs of being too skilled may have their maximum bet sizes reduced. On the other side of the coin, the minimum amount you can bet on sports is $2 although different minimums may apply in the casino and racebook.
You can reach the GTBets support team via telephone or email 24 hours a day. Faxes are also accepted although this seems a bit weird given that the client base – almost by definition – has access to the internet. There’s a live chat feature on the website, but it’s restricted to the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. EST.
Overall, GTBets is a respectable and reasonable place to bet. Although you might not want to make it your primary book, especially if you’re a fan of non-U.S. sports, I think that it’s very desirable as a secondary betting destination. The Favorite Teams special is a unique promotion that’s valuable and hard to find elsewhere. Be wary of the high withdrawal minimums and fees – this isn’t really a good place to go if you wish to deposit a small amount just to try your luck.
