Yankees Predictions
Our New York Yankees predictions for 2007 are based off of their
expected win total of 97. This would be quite high for any other team but
year after year the Bronx Bombers are expected to win the division, win the
pennant, and then take home a World Series title. Big George is getting a
little restless with the way they have been performing and the pressure is on
this season. ARod is in the last year of his deal before he has the chance
to opt out and go somewhere else, and the rest of the lineup isn't getting any
younger. Let's take an in-depth look.

There are going to be plenty of distractions this year with
the contract situation with Alex Rodriquez. Has any guy
been given less of a chance than the Yankees fans have given
him. He consistently puts up the best numbers of anyone
in the league and that isn't good enough because of his
struggles in the small sample set he has had to perform in
during playoff runs. Another player who will get some
heat is Mariano Rivera. The closer who is nearly
untouchable is in the last year of his deal and doesn't want
to negotiate after the season begins. Rivera has closed
down the end of games for the Yanks for quite a few years now,
but recent injury problems and his rising age are a cause for
concern with the team.
The team did get a bonus with the re-signing of Andy Pettitte.
This guy was a real playoff performer for the team before
jetting to his hometown of Houston, and he should provide
stability to the rotation that Randy Johnson couldn't quite
get accomplished. The team will also have Mike Mussina,
Chien-Ming Wang, Carl Pavano, and Kei Igawa in the rotation making this a decent, but
not great starting five. There isn't a single starter
that would be a real threat to shutdown the opposition, which
might hurt them come the playoffs. However, this offense
is strong enough that starters just have to not lose the game,
not necessarily win it on their own.
The lineup on the other hand will be a force to reckon with
once again. Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Rodriguez, Giambi,
Matsui, Posada, Cano, and Mientkie are a pretty formidable
group for opposing pitchers. The loss of Sheffield might
be shown if there are any problems with injuries, but last
season was about as bad as it could get as far as injuries
went and New York still had more than enough fire power to
make a playoff run. The team has Melky Cabrera, Miguel
Cairo, and Josh Phelps to give them more depth in the lineup
than almost anyone else in the league. With that being said it's hard to
take over 97 wins here, we are taking the UNDER.
