Tigers Predictions
Will the 2007 Detroit Tigers predictions show another great run
through the regular year and post-season? The expectations are high at
88.5 wins, and we think this is close to right. If you want to make a bet
we are leaning towards the under, but this is a tough one to call. It's
hard to see the team being much better than last year, but they didn't exactly
lose too much from a year ago.

You know this pitching staff is loaded when a guy as
good as Justin Verlander is the fifth guy in the rotation. This
rookie went 17-9 last year with a 3.63 ERA and was the surprise of the
American League. Mike Maroth suffered through a string of injuries
last year, but is a talented left-hander who will be able to get the job
done as the fourth starter. Nate Robertson is another left-hander
who will give fits to the oppsition. He went 13-13 last year but
with a 3.84 ERA and 137 strikeouts. Jeremy Bonderman has come a
long way since losing 19 games in 2003. He was 14-8 with a 4.08
ERA and 202 strikeouts in 214 innings and we expect more of the same
this year. Kenny Rogers was on fire yet again. This
42-year-old was 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA as he continues to produce for his
team year after year.
This lineup is not exactly the weak spot on the team
either. Behind the plate Ivan Rodriguez calls games better than
anyone else and takes care of business with his bat. Sean Casey
doesn't have a lot of power but hits consistently. The other three
infielders are Brandon Inge, Carlos Guillen, and Placido Polanco.
Inge had a breakout year last season with 27 home runs and 83 RBIs, but
the team is hoping for a few more hits to raise his .253 batting
average. Guillen is good for a .320 batting average, 20 home runs,
and 85 RBIs year in and year out. The power in the lineup comes
from Magglio Ordonez and Gary Sheffield. What a great pickup
Sheffield was. He struggled with injuries last year but in the
previous three with the Braves and Yankees averaged 36 HR, 125 RBIS, and
hit near .300. Ordonez had been having a problem staying healthy
but last season went for 24 HR and 104 RBIs while batting .300.
This Tigers team is going to have all eyes on them last
year as they made a miraculous run through the playoffs. This year
won't be so easy as no one will be overlooking the team. The
Indians, White Sox, and Twins will have be gunning to take their crown,
but we still like the Tigers to have a great shot at the division and
another playoff birth.
