2006 Kansas City Royals Predictions
With our
2006 Kansas City predictions we figure there is only
place for the Royals to go, right? I think they’ll definitely
improve on last season’s dismal 56-106 record, but it won’t be a drastic
improvement. Even if the Royals could muster a surprise winning season
as they did in 2003, they would still finish 4th in the division. All
signs point to Kansas City being the AL Central bottom feeders once
again as they have lost more than 100 games 3 of the last 4 seasons.
This is easily the worst team in baseball and even though they brought
in a slew of veterans, these guys were all considered to be washed up by
most of the experts.

This
team’s pitching staff has been ugly and will continue to be that way
this season. They have brought in Mark Redman from Pittsburgh, Scott
Elarton from Cleveland, and Joe Mays from Minnesota to offer leadership
to young guys like Grinke and Hernandez. The problem is that Redman had
a 5-15 record and Mays was 6-10 with a 5.65 ERA.
Even
though the batting was better than the pitching staff last season it
still isn’t good. Mike Sweeney comes in year after year as the best
batter on the squad, yet year after year he finds himself on the
disabled list. The aging Reggie Sanders may have some more magic left
in those old legs, but I doubt that he will find himself returning to
the old form. There isn’t a lot of other guys on this team that are
even worth mentioning, and their names are not recognizable. Don’t
expect any other magic out of these guys as you won’t see them making
another magical run.
If you studied this team closely last season, you would have found that
they couldn’t win the first game of a series to save their lives, and it
was even worse on the road. The Royals lost in the opening game of a
series 38 of 51 times and they lost 20 of 25 on the road in the first
game of a series. The 2006 Royals should tip us off fairly early on if
we’ll be able to ride this trend once again.
Because the Royals were so bad in 2005, when they lost the first game of
a series, more times than not, they went on to drop the second game as
well, losing 28 of 38 second games. Be sure to take note of their series
trends as those going against the Royals in the first 2 games of a
series last season would have come out an impressive 63-23.
The only
advantage that bettors have with the Royals is that not very many people
bet on their games. They are known publicly to be the worst team in
baseball, but if one of their pitchers gets hot you will be able to see
some heavy dog value on these guys through out the season. Remember to

You can’t go through the entire season betting against a team, even if
the Royals are going to win less than 70 games again.
